I had been exhausted from work all week, so when I finally got home that evening, I collapsed on the couch without even changing my clothes.

The house was quiet, and the soft hum of the TV in the background was soothing. Before I knew it, I had drifted off into a deep sleep. It must’ve been hours before I woke up—well, woke up isn’t exactly the right word. I felt a shift beside me, the weight of someone else on the couch.

At first, I didn’t think much of it; it wasn’t uncommon for my nephew to sneak in while I was asleep, but tonight, something felt different.
